The IBBT ICON project TERRAIN (Techno-economic research for future access infrastructure networks) and the FP7 project OASE (Optical Access Seamless Evolution) were both “associate partner” at the FTTH Council Europe Conference 2012, February 14-16, 2012 in Munich. Both projects were presented at a booth at the large exhibition. Several other TERRAIN partners such as Alcatel-Lucent, TE Connectivity, Euromicron and Comsof also presented their products.
The EUROCITIES Knowledge Society Forum (EUROCITIES KSF) brings together over 100 European cities and business partners, offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge among local governments and the organizations they work with. EUROCITIES KSF is a member-driven network currently chaired by the city of Vienna and vice-chaired by the city of Ghent. Its activities in 2011 are supported by five thematic Working Groups on eInclusion, Open Data, Smart Cities; Broadband and the EU Services Directive.
Considering the continuous increase in application bandwidth, an upgrade of the access network infrastructure seems inevitable, and FTTH is considered as the next logical step for the access network. However, in Europe, where often a fully buried installation is enforced by legislation, the costs are huge and quickly overweigh the expected revenues. It is crucial to find the optimal deployment strategy taking into account implementation details, technological choices, recurrent operational expenditures future (expected) technologies and migration paths.
The IBBT ICON project TERRAIN (Techno-economic research for future access infrastructure networks) and the FP7 project OASE (Optical Access Seamless Evolution) both received the “associate partner” status for the upcoming FTTH Conference 2011, February 9-10, 2011 in Milan, organized by the FTTH Council Europe. Both projects, with IBBT as an important project partner, will be represented at a booth at the large exhibition. The European FTTH Conference is the largest Fibre-to-the-Home event in the world.
