Workshop on Municipal Fiber Networks - October 24th, 2011 - Ghent, Belgium

We would like to invite you to our workshop on Municipal Fiber Networks, which we are organizing on October 24th (full day) in Ghent, Belgium.

The main goal of our workshop is spreading knowledge from existing fiber network initiatives towards different players involved in potential future deployments. We will tackle expected revenues as well as indirect effects, potential synergies in deployment and operations, and suitable business models. Discussion will be stimulated, both during the sessions, the final panel discussion, coffee and lunch breaks and networking reception.

The workshop will be a full day program. As keynote speaker, Benoît Felten from Diffraction Analysis will outline the fundamental disruptive nature of universal connectivity through next-generation broadband access and how communities can rethink their modes of operation on that basis. Next we will have 3 sessions, each consisting of an actual testimonial presentation from an existing case, a more theoretic perspective and some alternative view, introducing international and local speakers. The panel discussion at the end of the day will bring together representatives from the different cities presenting their views on the actual role of the city in a successful fiber rollout.

The workshop is supported by three projects in which our research group participates (EC FP7-OASE, IBBT TERRAIN and NGInfra Public Benefits). We have also support from FTTH Council Europe, the city of Ghent, Comsof, WCS fiber Optic, Ghent University and IBBT.
