Leylab and TERRAIN in DataNews
An optical network allowing telecom operators to offer high bandwidth to their customers: this is not granted to everyone. At IBBT, the implications of such network are being studied thoroughly. DataNews recently dedicated an article to the two projects where IBBT is involved. One project is going on in Kortrijk, the other one in Ghent.
Terrain
In Ghent, research is made on how the works for constructing optical networks and the other infrastructure can be better in tune with each other. The recommendations resulting from the Terrain project should minimize interference for inhabitants.
LeyLab
Does the consumer benefit from such a high-speed optical network? This is being investigated in Kortrijk, at the living lab LeYLab. LeYlab is one of three living labs put up by IBBT (iLab.o) and is partially financed by IWT.
The living lab project already started some time ago, but the network has only been fully operational for a few months now. About 200 test subjects are involved in the project, of these, 110 families are from the Buda and Overleie districts in Kortrijk. IBBT iLab.o is responsible for selection, acquisition and support of test users.
